Our Provenance Pledge

At Heathman Hotel, sustainability, philanthropy and community are at the heart of all we do. We are people first, hoteliers second. We are focused on taking steps — small and large — for the betterment of our communities, for our guests, our employees and future generations.

Our goal at Provenance hotels is to embrace sustainable practices and offer our guests informed choices so, together, we can conserve energy, reduce and divert waste, and minimize and mitigate our environmental impact. We approach sustainability on many fronts. Efforts across all hotels include placing recycling receptacles in all guest rooms, offering a Green for Green program that rewards guests who opt out of housekeeping, and purchasing bicycles for guests to explore our destinations car-free. At Provenance, we recognize the importance of corporate giving. We have strategically opted to maximize our impact by focusing our in-kind resources on initiatives in our community that align with our passions and values. These fall into four areas of philanthropic endeavor: Arts and Culture; Health and Wellness; Equity and Inclusion; and Community Livability. In addition, proactive engagement within our communities, we donate in-kind resources toward supporting these initiatives.

Our Five Star Promise

The safety and security of our employees is and has always been not just a top priority, but one of our closest-held core values. We have written anti-sexual harassment policies and train our team on a continuous basis. We have implemented new standards to improve safety for any employee who enters a guestroom alone and we are committed to equipping employees with safety devices.  And it doesn’t stop there; we constantly review and strive to continuously improve our policies, protocols, and training and explore new and emerging technology. That’s our Five Star Promise.

We seek out opportunities - big and small - to reduce, reuse and recycle. Our initiatives at Heathman Hotel include:

  • In our guestrooms, we use large, refillable shampoo, conditioner and body wash containers offer recycling receptacles; and give guests the option to utilize our Green for Green program, empowering and incentivizing those staying more than one night to opt-out of housekeeping services to reduce energy, water and cleaning products consumed during their stay.
  • In our restaurant, we’ve eliminated the use of plastic straws to help reduce single-use plastic pollution and the impact it has on our landfills, streams, oceans, and beaches.
  • Throughout our property, we utilize low flow fixtures to reduce water consumption and energy-efficient climate control and water heating systems to minimize our electricity consumption.
  • We use only low VOC paint in our hotel to minimize the amount of volatile organic compounds released into the atmosphere when we perform necessary maintenance.
  • HVAC equipment, appliances, furnishings, and fixtures are resource and energy-intensive to manufacture and transport. We have implemented a rotating preventative maintenance program to extend the life of these items and reduce replacement frequency.
  • We have a partnership in place with our local power provider to purchase renewable energy.
  • We use compact fluorescent light bulbs which, compared to incandescent bulbs, give the same amount of visible light but use one-fifth to one-third the electric power and need to be replaced eight to fifteen times less often.
  • Included in every guest’s stay are amenities like our library that allows guests to borrow from more than 3,000 books during their visit; and our bicycle program which gives guests the option to reduce their carbon footprint and explore the city under pedal power.
  • We subsidize mass transit passes for our employees so they can leave their cars at home and commute to work via public transportation.
  • We reduce our paper consumption by configuring our copy machines to print double-sided, encouraging \ reuse of single-sided printouts as scratch paper, and purchasing paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content.
  • Where possible, we make our purchases of supplies in bulk and, where practical, we default to sourcing from local vendors and suppliers to minimize the environmental impact of shipping.
  • Behind the scenes, we compost and recycle, too.
